Radical Impermanence

When is a painting finished? When does an artist relinquish control, declare a work of art complete to their satisfaction, and release it out to the world?  This is an experiment exploring impermanence. Twelve existing paintings from 2020 to 2023, all presently considered finished, complete, nothing needing to be added or subtracted, are paired with the twelve months of 2024.   During each month, the artist will reevaluate the corresponding painting in light of the nature of impermanence, the notion that everything changes, all forms are in flux, nothing remains the same over the passage of time.  Adding new forms, subtracting sections of the painting, creating new colors, destroying portions -- all are possible changes in the spirit of impermanence.
